Description
Located in North Carolina's Linville Gorge National Wilderness Area, Linville Falls makes a 90-foot plunge into the deepest river gorge in the eastern United States. The falls are accessible near mile marker 316 on the Blue Ridge Parkway and can be viewed by following a short trail from the Linville Falls Visitor Center. Rugged peaks and steep slopes throughout the gorge inspired Cherokee to call this area Eeseeoh which means "river of cliffs," while modern-day visitors have described Linville Gorge as the "Grand Canyon of the East."
