“A mountain farmstead beneath Humpback Rocks lies quietly along the Blue Ridge Parkway near milemarker 6. This site features some ingenious contraptions, like a weasel-proof chicken house and a bear-proof hog pen, as well as more traditional structures - cabin, root cellar, barn and spring house - typical of an 1890s mountain farm. Embalmed in a fog and surrounded by fall colors, this site provides an historical glimpse into a simpler, less complicated time, some would consider The Golden Age.”
