In the early 20th century, Edwin B. Mabry built a mill to grind cornmeal, saw logs into boards, and power a woodworking shop for his neighbors in Virginia’s Meadows of Dan community. After Mabry’s death in 1936, the mill fell into disrepair until it was restored in 1942 under the direction of Blue Ridge Parkway designer Stan Abbott. In the years since, Mabry Mill, now located near mile marker 176, has become one of the Parkway’s best known landmarks.
